From
small beginnings...
It all began
in 1967 when Bob McKnight started on his own as a joiner and with hard
work and business acumen built up the family business as it is today
covering a range of work from constructing quality homes to building
extensions of all types.
He built his
first house in 1972, a two bedroom semi in Morton West without even the
aid of a JCB. The
foundations were dug by hand.
Quality
approval...
Once we had
built 10 homes we were able to get a full membership of the NHBC. In
1980 we built 50 houses in Stanwix behind the Gosling Bridge Hotel
having first bought the land from Laings before developing it.
We then went
on to build an award winning block of luxury flats at Nelson Bridge
Court on the Viaduct for £3/4 million.
To date we have now built more than 100 houses.
Family
traditions...
Anne, Bob’s wife is a partner of the firm along
with Wayne (son) and Deborah (daughter) works in the office.
The majority of our workforce have been with us for some time, a
couple for over 20 years.
We specialise
in quality work, plus the fact that we have always limited expansion of
the firm so that we can keep more control in the quality. We are only as
good as our workforce. The
tradesmen who work for us are the lifeblood of the firm.
The
future...
We are
probably the longest established building firm in Carlisle and are proud
of the reputation we have earned for quality. It
is always nice to see children of parents who originally purchased one
of our homes then followed their example and also come to us for their
homes too. |
