History

Bob McKnight started as a sole joiner in the sixties. By 1972 he had built his first house in the Morton area of Carlisle; a two bedroom semi-detached, with the foundations dug entirely by hand rather than the usual JCB machinery! It was not long before the ongoing list of quality homes built by Bob began to grow, and soon he had gained full membership of the NHBC (National House Building Council).

By the 80's, McKnights were building quality houses around the city, including fifty on a piece of land which was bought and developed by us in the Stanwix region of the city. Since then we have built over a hundred houses in the city and many extensions, not to mention the award winning luxury apartments at Nelson Bridge Court at the viaduct.

McKnights have always been a family business - with wife Anne as partner, and children Deborah and Wayne taking up an executive role within the office.

As far as the work force - we are strong believers that we can only be as good as them. We are probably the longest established building firm in Carlisle, and are proud of the reputation we have gained for quality, so we continue to strive to keep this reputation going. Hence it is massively important to us to continue employing the highest skilled tradesmen available to ensure McKnights quality is carried on for years to come.
